Area code 475 was originally created in 1947 as area code 212. In 1992, area code 212 was split, and area code 475 was created for the Bronx. Area code 212 was subsequently re-assigned to Manhattan.

Area code 475 serves parts of eastern Pennsylvania, including the Greater Philadelphia area. The code was created on November 3, 1997, and it was the first new area code to be added to the Keystone State since area code 610 was created in 1984.
