267 Area code historyThe 267 area code was first introduced in Pennsylvania in 1947. At the time, it served the entire state. In 1995, however, the area code was split into the 215 and the 267 area codes. 267 now serves the southeastern portion of Pennsylvania, including the city of Philadelphia.

While the use of area codes is now largely relegated to phone numbers, they once played a much more important role in people's lives. In the early days of telephone service, area codes were used to route calls to the correct location. This was especially important before the advent of caller ID.
