Area code 215 was one of the original area codes established in 1947. It originally covered the city of Philadelphia and its suburbs. However, over the years, the Philadelphia suburbs have grown, and the 215 area code now also includes parts of southern New Jersey.The original area code 215 was basically divided in two parts: the 215 area code covers the city of Philadelphia and its immediate suburbs, while the 267 area code covers the suburbs that are located further out.

Over the years, the 215 area code has been the source of a lot of controversy. In 1995, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of an overlay area code, which would have been Area code 610. However, the proposed 610 area code would have overlapped with the 215 area code, and this would have caused a lot of confusion for people.

As a result, the proposed 610 area code was never implemented. In 2000, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of a new area code, Area code 484, which would have served the suburbs that were located further out. However, this new area code would have also overlapped with the 215 area code.

Finally, in 2002, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of an overlay area code, which would have been Area code 267. This would have been the first time that two area codes would have overlapped in the same area. However, the proposed 267 area code would have also overlapped with the 484 area code, and this would have caused a lot of confusion for people.

As a result, the proposed 267 area code was never implemented. In 2006, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of a new area code, Area code 610, which would have served the suburbs that were located further out. However, this new area code would have also overlapped with the 215 area code.

Finally, in January 2011, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of an overlay area code, which would have been Area code 445. This would have been the first time that three area codes would have overlapped in the same area. However, the proposed 445 area code would have also overlapped with the 215 and the 484 area codes, and this would have caused a lot of confusion for people.

As a result, the proposed 445 area code was never implemented. In February 2016, the state of Pennsylvania authorized the creation of a new area code, Area code 267, which would have served the
